Ross Pelligra, a multi-millionaire property tycoon has made his fortune with commercial, industrial and residential property, predominantly in Victoria. He recently bought the franchise for the Adelaide Giants baseball team - and now he wants YOUR Open Green Public Park Lands (and taxpayer funding) to turn his franchise into a money-spinner.

Mr Pelligra has scoured Adelaide looking at potential sites for a new baseball stadium. He's found eight possible sites, seven of which are on your Open Green Public Park Lands.

He estimates the cost of construction at $40 million but he's not williing to commit that much himself. Of course he is not looking at buying land. Like so many before him, he seems to prefer the idea of getting his hands on your Open Green Public Park Lands.

Here's how the Advertiser covered the story: ($$ subscriber-only link)

This stadium proposal comes on top of a separate State Government proposal for an “arena” or stadium that would destroy Helen Mayo Park (Park 27).

Mr Pelligra's full wish list of potential sites:

  • Helen Mayo Park (Park 27) - next to the SA Government's proposed $660 million stadium

  • Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16)

  • Mary Lee Park (Park 27B) (current home of West Adelaide Soccer Club)

  • Veale Park / Walyu Yarta (Park 21) near the corner of South Tce and Goodwood Rd

  • Carriageway Park / Tuthangga (Park 17) near the corner of Greenhill Rd and Beaumont Rd (current home of Touch Football SA)

  • Reservoir Park / Kangatilla (Park 4) in North Adelaide

  • Ellis Park / Tampawardli (Park 24) off West Tce (current home of the Adelaide Comets soccer club and the Western Districts Athletics Club)

The one site on his wish list that is NOT within your Adelaide Park Lands is at Mile End – adjacent to the SA Athletics Stadium.
