The City Council’s draft budget for 2025-26 appears to slash funding for maintenance of your Adelaide Park Lands, by almost two-thirds.
Please, before Tuesday 27 May, make a two-minute email plug for your Park Lands, and provide feedback on the City Council‘s Draft 2025-26 Budget and Annual Business Plan.
The easiest way to do that is simply to advise the Council that you support our submission.
The quickest and simplest way you can contribute is simply to advise the City Council that you support some or all of the submission of 13 May from the Adelaide Park Lands Association.
The Adelaide Park Lands Association has already submitted our feedback (PDF, 3 pages, 154 Kb):
querying what appears to be a significant reduction in funds allocated for maintenance of your Park Lands, apparently down from $22.89 million to $7.7 million;
querying what private facilities would be part of a proposed $10 million spend on two sports buildings upgrades;
expressing disappointment that the long-awaited public access improvements to Helen Mayo Park will be set back by at least a further 12 months, pending creation of a delayed “Master Plan”; and
querying whether any of the $2.32 million allocated for a “Public Realm Greening Program” will be spent within your Park Lands, to remove bitumen at any of the eight sites that the Council has already identified for that purpose.
These sites (numbered 3, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, and 17 on the map above) are hard bitumen surfaces that the City Council agrees are no longer needed for their previous bitumen purposes.
Finally, our submission also reminds the Council of the enormous tourism potential to be accessed by investing in the proposed Adelaide Recreation Circuit.
SA Labor made a pre-election promise in February 2022, to investigate this project but neither the State Government nor the City Council has yet allocated any funding for a feasibility study.
