Do you live or operate a business in the City Council's Central Ward?
If so, you've probably received some campaign material in your letter box. Ballot papers were scheduled to be mailed out starting from Tuesday 29 July and can be returned no later than midday on Monday 25 August.
A total of 19 candidates are contesting just four vacancies. This is the order in which they appear on postal ballot papers:
Each candidate is obliged to let you know whether they have any political party membership, and that information is included in each of the 19 candidate profiles that have been lodged with the SA Electoral Commission:
Liberal Party: Oscar Zi Shao Ong, Alfredo Cabada, Hugo Siu, Glenn Bain, Franz Knoll,
SA Labor: David Elliott; Declan Price-Brooks.
Family First Party: Frederick Christopher Brohier
No political party membership: Patrick Maher, Carmel Noon, Colin Shearing, Vivek Gupta, Anne Moran, Ben Ayris, Jasmin Ilic, Eleanor Freeman, James McPherson, Hamish Maclachlan, Raymond Khabbaz
We contacted all 19 candidates, asking their responses to these six specific questions about your Park Lands.
When you hear Adelaide Park Lands, what comes to mind?
What are your views on the Malinauskas Government's takeover of Possum Park / Pirltawardli (Park 1) and John E Brown Park (Park 27A) for a golf course "redevelopment"?
What future land uses would you support within the Park Lands? (e.g. informal recreation, amateur sport, professional sport, cultural festivals, institutional, educational, tourism?)
What kind of new buildings would you support within the Park Lands? (e.g.clubrooms, kiosk, schools, storage sheds, function centres etc)
What kind of new private commercial developments would you support in the Park Lands, if at all? (e.g. hotel, gymnasium, office building, residential, retail, innovation hub?)
Do you support World Heritage listing of the Adelaide Park Lands?
By 31 July, twelve of the candidates had responded. Of these twelve, APA recommends that, on the basis of their responses, your first five preferences should go to these five: (in no particular order): Ben Ayris, Anne Moran, Carmel Noon, Patrick Maher, and Eleanor Freeman.
To record a formal vote you must number at least four candidates (to fill the four vacancies), but the Electoral Commission advises you to number ALL candidates, from 1 to 19.
