How Will the Moto GP Affect You?

The State Government is consulting on its proposed MotoGP circuit in Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi โ€” including permanent construction and the removal of more than 400 trees.

Submissions close 11.59 pm, Sunday 20 September.

Weโ€™ve put together a simple guide on how to make a submission, what you might raise, and a template to help you get started.

Find out how to have your say.

Disruption and congestion

  • How much longer are you prepared to spend getting to and from work because major roads are closed?

  • What does an extra 30, 45 or 60 minutes each way actually take away from your day?

  • If thousands of cars are displaced from closed roads, where will they go?

  • If they are redirected through your suburb, past your home or onto your usual route, are you still comfortable with the proposal?

  • What if this is just the first of many events?

 Your children

  • If your commute gets longer, will your children spend longer in childcare or OSHC waiting for you?

  • Will you pay more for care because traffic prevents you collecting them on time?

  • How much less time will your family have together each day?

  • If you need to get from work to school pick-up and then to sport, does the proposed traffic plan actually allow your family to do that?

How Will the Moto GP Affect Schools and education

  • Will road closures or congestion make it harder for your children to get to school on time?

  • What happens to school buses and public transport when usual routes are closed or congested?

  • If you attend university or TAFE, could you reliably get to compulsory classes, placements or exams?

  • What happens when an important exam and an unpredictable commute collide?

How Will the Moto GP AffectSport and community clubs

  • If your family uses sporting facilities in or around the Park Lands, will you still be able to reach them?

  • A sporting ground might technically remain โ€œopenโ€ but can players, parents, coaches and volunteers actually get there?

  • What happens to a community club when training or competition is disrupted for weeks rather than a weekend?

  • If your child's sport has to relocate, where exactly is it supposed to go?

How Will the Moto GP AffectHealth and emergencies

  • If you needed an ambulance during peak congestion, would you be confident it could reach you and the hospital without delay?

  • How will ambulances, fire appliances and other emergency vehicles move through roads carrying traffic displaced by closures?

  • If you have a hospital appointment, medical treatment or specialist appointment, how much additional travel time should you have to allow?

  • Have you seen enough information to be confident that emergency access has been properly planned and tested?

How will the MotoGP Track Affect Your Park Lands?

  • Is it realistic for grassed areas to be rehabilitated quickly between events?

  • How will the expanded track and infrastructure affect the attempt to have the Adelaide Park Lands World Heritage listed?

  • Will there be financial pressure to have more and more events at this track and more and more such development across the Park Lands

  • What effect will the additional noise have on vulnerable species such as the Chequered Copper Butterfly

  • Is this event worth the  loss of 400 tree

Does the economic case stack up?

  • What is the total cost in other subsidies and inducements to riders, teams and the owner Liberty media?

  • What extra costs will be created in other budgets such as police and health?

  • What other events and services have been cut or not funded to pay for this such as OzAsia ?

  • What will the Government do if this event is lured away to another city? Is there a budget for what it is willing to spend to attract Motorsports Events?

  • Have other less disruptive economic opportunities such as the tourism arising from World Heritage Status been considered?

Consultation and Assessment Processes

  • Have you actually been told how long your roads, sporting facilities and Park Lands could be affected? Are you able to get that information easily?

  • Have you been given enough information to understand what this proposal will mean for your own household?

  • Were the people who live, work, study, travel, play sport and raise families around these areas genuinely consulted before the decision was made?

  • Why has there been no independent Environment Impact Statement?

Alternative Sites

  • Has there been enough consideration of alternative sites such as Tailem Bend?
