Two hundred rally to "Stop the Chop"

Pressure is mounting on Premier Peter Malinauskas to release the hit list of the 585 trees that he wants to destroy in the urban forested golf course of Possum Park /Pirltawardli (Park 1 of your Adelaide Park Lands).

An estimated two hundred Park Lands supporters were not deterred by rain on Saturday 28 February, gathering at Montefiore Hill as they sent an unmistakeable message to the Premier, and his embattled Environment Minister Lucy Hood: "Stop the Chop!"

The rally at Montefiore Hill / Light’s Vision was just the start of the action. Volunteers then moved across the road to ensure that dozens of trees echoed the message:

The rally kicked off with speakers including heritage architect, Elizabeth Vines, OAM, former History Trust CEO, Greg Mackie OAM, and APA’s Mat Monti

The “Stop the Chop” rally is just one part of the campaign to protect Possum Park / Pirltawardli (Park 1 of your Park Lands); an urban forested golf course Park.

Another part of the campaign will be a Park Lands ‘How to Vote’ Guide. The Adelaide Park Lands Association is intending to release our voting recommendations by Tuesday 10 March, before early voting commences. Our stand to Protect Your Park Lands has had strong support from the Greens, from Upper House MLC Tammy Franks, and in the electorate of Adelaide, from Community Independent Keiran Snape.

Another part of our campaign is the petition: “Protect Possum Park Pete” which has attracted more than 4,700 signatures:

Numbers are growing daily. This was the petition signature count by 28 February 2026. Have you signed yet? https://www.change.org/p/protect-possum-park-pete

An another element of the campaign is a survey, asking for your opinion on the State Government’s takeover of the urban forested golf course Park, had attracted 612 responses by 28 February 2026, with more than 91% "strongly disapproving”.
