State Election 2026 - Question #5
Adelaide Recreation Circuit
We advised each political party about the concept of a globally unique, uninterrupted walking, running and cycling trail showcasing Adelaide’s Park Lands. The concept has had past support from Business SA, the Australian Hotels Association, the Property Council, Athletics SA, the SA Road Runners Club, Bike SA, Bike Adelaide, the Kaurna community, and the Adelaide Park Lands Association.
We asked: “If elected how would you assist to bring this concept to fruition?” Here’s what they replied:
| Party | Party Response | APA evaluation | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tammy Franks group - independent for Legislative Council | I strongly support the creation of the Adelaide Recreation Circuit (the Circuit). Activities such.as running, cycling and walking bring enormous benefits to those who choose to participate in them. Importantly, they can be undertaken on an ad hoc basis, at times that suit the individual participant, and they can be relatively low cost to participate in. The infrastructure footprint required to make them available across the Park Lands to South Australians is minimal. | As good a response as can be expected from any candidate or party | 9 |
| Animal Justice Party | We first need to know the cost. This proposal could also be part of an integrated plan for cycling infrastructure, so it can connect with existing cycling infrastructure and serve more than just recreation. If feasible, I would work with other elected members to help bring this to fruition. | Yes knowing the cost would be essential but that requires a feasibility study. This response although supportive, appears not to grasp the transformative nature of the proposal that is about showcasing your Park Lands, not only cycling | 9 |
| Greens | The Greens are supportive of this project. We will lobby the next Government to make this a priority and continue to raise questions in the parliament regarding its status. | As good a response as can be expected from any party | 9 |
| Liberal Party | The proposed development of uninterrupted running, walking and cycling trails is supported in principle, as we agree that enhancing access to as many different users as possible is the best way to ensure the understanding of this asset and ensuring support. Augmenting the existing mountain bike jumps track and cyclocross tracks in use in the Park Lands with an extensive and well-planned network of additional cycling, walking and running trails is an excellent initiative. | "In principle" support is better than nothing | 3 |
| SA Labor | The Malinauskas Labor Government agrees the proposed Adelaide Recreation Circuit within the Adelaide Park Lands has some merit and would improve accessibility and ensure more people can enjoy and use our Park Lands. Should we be re-elected in March, we look forward to continuing these discussions with you and other key stakeholders. | Four years ago, SA Labor promised to "investigate" this. If any "investigation" has occured, then nothing has emerged publicly. Nevertheless "continuing these discussions" is better than outright rejection. | 2 |

| Craig Pickering Independent for Legislative Council | As this is clearly supported by so many groups, and is of obvious benefit, my task would be to ensure that the collective voices involved are heard, respected and transparently acted upon without delay. | As good a response as can be expected from any candidate | 9 |
