Sophie's story. Young People Love Park Lands Too!

Hello,

My name is Sophie and I am 16 years old. I live in Dulwich, right across the road from the Adelaide Park Lands. My yard isn’t very big, so the Park Lands act as one for my family and me.

Many of my most cherished memories have been created among the trees and grasses of the Park Lands: picnics with my Aunty, kicking the footy with my brothers, walking my dogs and catching up with friends. I use the Park Lands as a training ground for my running and complete trail runs throughout the year.

The Park Lands are an exciting, joyful and precious place for me. They are not just a park down the street, they are part of my home and a place I feel greatly protective of. The trees in the Park Lands are an integral part of the parks. They are what create the magic of having nature and wildlife in my backyard, even though I live so close to the city.  They are what gets me outside to run, even on cold winter mornings.

Destroying the trees would mean destroying a part of my home, a part of my neighbours’ home and the homes of countless birds and other critters. Please, let the trees be.
