Fumes or plumes? Why not bird tourism?

As the South Australian Government pushes ahead with plans to bring MotoGP to Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi, a leading birdwatcher says the State could be overlooking another growing tourism opportunity, one that depends on protecting our natural environment rather than building racetracks through it.

When is consultation ‘real’, and when is it BS? ...

Premier Peter Malinauskas says the election settled whether his Government’s controversial Park Lands projects will proceed. Consultation can change the details, but not the decision. But what happens when some of the most contentious details were never put before voters?

When is consultation ‘real’, and when is it BS? Premier explains his Park Lands mandate.

Senior Adelaide University academics say the SA Government used legislation to bypass normal planning assessment and public scrutiny of the North Adelaide golf course redevelopment.

Read what they found — and why the Adelaide Park Lands Association is calling for cast-iron protection against the future sale, privatisation or permanent alienation of our public Park Lands.

MYTH BUSTER: Olives are a declared pest, so why ...

Wild olives can be environmental weeds. But that doesn’t make Adelaide’s historic, managed olive groves disposable.

The 1872 grove in King Rodney Park / Ityamai-itpina (Park 15) is threatened by the proposed MotoGP circuit.

But, we can control invasive olives and protect our living heritage.

MYTH BUSTER: Olives are a declared pest, so why preserve the Park Lands olive groves?

Underplanting encouraged

More underplanting beneath big trees in your Adelaide Park Lands would help discourage activities directly under them and manage the level of risk from falling limbs.

That’s according to Joanna Wells, who’s an outreach coordinator at Conservation SA and a councillor with the City of Mitcham.

Reclaim Light Square

It’s time to reclaim Adelaide’s Squares for people, not traffic.

The City Council wants your views on the future of Light Square / Wauwi.

Your Park Lands can be so much better with six lanes of traffic diverted around, not through, one of your Open, Green, Public spaces.

E-scooters - pain for some

You would’ve seen them parked alongside your Park Lands or riders zipping down footpaths on them.

E-scooters — some love the convenient mode of transport (and the ease of hiring them), others hate them.

Vote for your favourite tree

Voting is underway in the South Australian Tree of the Year competition. If you appreciate any of your local large trees, you have until the end of March to lodge a vote at 20metretrees.org

Our suggestion: a 150-year-old river red gum in Park 15.

Celebrate your urban forests

Next week is a time to reflect and give thanks for the few urban forests that remain in your Open, Green, Public Adelaide Park Lands.

On the International Day of Forests, will the State Government re-think its plans to destroy one of Adelaide’s few urban mini-forests?

Conservatory's future questioned

Questions have been raised about the future of the Bicentennial Conservatory in the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

Despite a Strategic Plan calling for a “re-imagining” of the Conservatory as a “Martian biodome” the Garden’s Director says “there are no concrete plans at the moment” to replace the building’s tropical plants.

Your Adelaide Park Lands have been buzzing with life during the Fringe festival, but it’s not the occasion to wear your best shoes.

Foot traffic and extreme heat have turned some Park Lands Fringe sites dusty and brown, rather than green.
